February has given us some warmer days and the first of the spring blooms, it certainly lifts the spirits and has me reaching for colour charts and vibrant fabric swatches.
I’ve been busy with floral quotes for weddings and events taking place both this year and next, its lovely spending time in meetings, drawing up plans and sketching ideas.
You can see my finished Valentine’s table below, based on the beautiful details from paintings I looked at in the National Portrait gallery on my visit in January.

Petershams Millinery supplies was my first port of call, they have a treasure trove of ribbons and trims, and what a find their vintage champagne ‘Baroque’ flat backed faux pearls were! They finished off my napkin adornments perfectly, I also used their Vintage medium duck egg 38 mm wide No.9 moire Petersham ribbon, 5mm velvet insertion piping cord in Victorian Rose and Jester Star 20mm vintage 1950 lace.

I hand painted a piece of raw edged cotton to make the peony pink runner and added Wedgwood powder blue patterned bowls and classic champagne coupes.

The florals were a simple mix of fragrant Hyacinth in blush and blue, Paper Whites, Tulips, Moss and Eucalyptus arranged in a glass footed bowl.

Taking inspiration from another art form is a lovely starting point for a wedding or event and brings originality, you can see the paintings that inspired me in January’s journal post above.
My own Valentine’s Day was spent in Stratford upon Avon where I spent an amazing afternoon exploring the Royal Shakespeare Companies Costume workshops, store and archive, a huge inspiration and another starting point for a project, more on this next time!
